Our "Bad day at the dyno" was actually a very good day! The correction factor was 1.00, it was 61*F, barometer at 29.04" Hg, totally un-Nebraska like for January 12.

We learned that the clutch was worn and slipped above 450 lbs/ft of torque at 3300rpm.

We also learned that our home-made boost controller didn't control too much of anything. What worked consistently on the street at 14psi almost cost me an engine on the dyno in 4th gear. On another pull we saw 20psi. The A/F ratio stayed comfortably at 12:1 until the boost exceeded 12psi when it went dangerously lean to 15:1 above 5000rpm. We suspect the 36lbs/hr injectors maxed out.

Watch my daughter do everything right -- except to lift off the throttle. Three seconds at full throttle before we got her attention. The cameraman (yours truly) was shockingly close to a heart attack, see the pull and my reaction in this 1.19mb low-res clip.

So we bring a child into the world, we have sleepless nights caring for them when they're sick, we gladly give them our last dime to ensure they have what they need, and this is the thanks we get? The reality is poor nervous Ali was getting back at me for putting her in a tense situation. I think the next time we do this she'll lift when the shift light turns on. Good practice, don't you think?
